The Yaiza Extremo Sur MTB will return to Playa Blanca on 6th and 7th November, with more than 220 participants already registered for the seventh edition of the mountain biking event. The competition will feature 30km and 60km routes for adults, alongside a shorter race for children.
The event was officially presented on the morning of Wednesday 4 November at the events marquee of the THB Tropical Island Hotel in Playa Blanca.
The launch was attended by Ángel Lago, Yaiza’s Councillor for Sport; Juan Monzón, the Cabildo’s Councillor for Physical Activity and Sport; Óscar Sepúlveda, Director of the THB Tropical Island Hotel; and Moisés Saavedra, head of Cronoline Eventos, which organises the competition.
More than 220 cyclists had registered before the official closing of entries, scheduled for 11.59pm on Wednesday 4 November.
During the presentation, Ángel Lago confirmed that the event forms part of the 19th Lanzarote-Fuerteventura Inter-Island Cup.
Routes entirely within Yaiza
One of the main changes for this year’s edition is that both routes will remain entirely within the municipality of Yaiza, crossing rural tracks and volcanic terrain.
The event’s main base will be on Calle La Concha in Playa Blanca, next to the THB Tropical Island hotel complex. Both the start and finish lines will be located there, giving spectators an accessible point from which to follow the competition.
The programme begins on Friday 6th November with the Children’s MTB Race, providing an opportunity for Lanzarote’s younger mountain bikers to take part. The children’s competition is scheduled to start at 4pm.
Saturday 7th November will see the adult races take place, with the 60km route starting at 8am and the 30km distance getting underway at 9am.
The two distances are designed to accommodate both experienced mountain bikers and those looking for a shorter and more manageable challenge.
The THB Tropical Island Hotel will also host the race number collection and Saturday’s awards ceremony, which is scheduled for 1.45pm.
