Lanzarote experienced soaring temperatures on Monday as the Canary Islands heatwave arrived, with Puerto del Carmen recording the island’s highest temperature of 39.9°C.
According to the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, the weather station in Puerto del Carmen registered the near-40°C reading, making it the hottest location on the island.
Elsewhere, temperatures also climbed well above 30°C. Lanzarote Airport reached 35.1°C at 2:00 p.m., while Haría in the north recorded 34.9°C at 1:00 p.m.
In the capital, AEMET reported a maximum temperature of 31.2°C, also recorded at 2:00 p.m. Playa Blanca saw temperatures rise to 32°C during the day.
Meanwhile, La Graciosa reached 29.4°C, and Tinajo recorded one of the island’s lowest maximum temperatures at 28.9°C.
