Lanzarote has been ranked among the 10 most affordable summer holiday destinations for British travellers, according to new research by UK credit card provider Aqua.

The study compared 52 popular destinations across the UK and Europe, analysing the total cost of a one-week holiday for two adults, including flights, accommodation, meals, drinks, local transport and attractions.

While Albania claimed the top spot as Europe’s best-value destination, Lanzarote secured 10th place in the affordability rankings, highlighting the island’s continued appeal for holidaymakers looking for sunshine without excessive costs.

What does a week in Lanzarote cost?

According to Aqua’s analysis, the average costs for a one-week holiday for two adults in Lanzarote are:

  • Travel (flights): £191
  • Three-star accommodation (2 adults): £1,048
  • Average Meal Out Cost: £8.64
  • Average Pint Cost: £2.59
  • Local transport (one-way ticket): £1.47
  • Average Local Attractions Cost: £69

Although accommodation and travel costs are higher than some of the destinations that ranked above it, Lanzarote’s relatively affordable food, drink and transport prices helped secure its place in the top 10.

The island ranked behind Albania, Prague, Porto, Madrid, Lisbon, the Costa del Sol, Budapest, Tenerife and Blackpool.

Europe offers better value than UK staycations

Aqua’s research found that European destinations generally offer better value than holidays within the UK.

The report noted that all of the top 10 destinations in its overall value ranking were located outside the UK, while eight of the ten most expensive destinations analysed were British locations.

According to the study, higher accommodation, food and drink prices in many UK destinations mean that travelling abroad can often work out cheaper than staying closer to home, despite the additional cost of flights.

Rising costs influencing travel decisions

The research comes at a time when many Britons are reconsidering their travel plans. Aqua cited recent findings showing that 47% of UK travellers are cutting back on travel due to rising flight costs, while 20% are considering skipping a holiday altogether.

The company says careful planning, travelling outside peak periods and checking overseas spending charges can all help travellers keep costs under control.

Aqua’s analysis was based on data collected in May 2026 and assessed destinations using a weighted affordability index that considered transport, accommodation, food and drink, attractions, weather and online popularity.
