The historic Bar Stop in Yaiza has been recognised as the Best Classic Bar in the Canary Islands at the inaugural T Bar Awards, organised by Tapas Magazine.

The awards ceremony was held in Madrid on Monday 25th May and featured two categories for each autonomous community: Best Modern Bar and Best Classic Bar. In the Canary Islands, the Best Modern Bar award went to Tagoro in Fuerteventura, while Bar Stop claimed the title of Best Classic Bar. The award was collected by owner Fátima Machín.

“Bar Stop in Yaiza is the oldest bar in Lanzarote, dating back to 1890,” manager Humberto Quilón told La Voz de Lanzarote.

The venue, renowned for its chickpeas, sancocho and pescado encebollado, was recognised for “its tradition and its concept of a bar,” Quilón explained.

During the ceremony, organisers said the Classic Bars category was created to honour historic establishments that have preserved the spirit of traditional hospitality over many decades.

Presenter Julia de Castro highlighted the importance of these long-standing venues before inviting the winners to the stage.

“No trend comes out of nowhere. For us to be here today, there must have been bars that have stood the test of time, always keeping their shutters up,” she said.
