Arrecife Ayuntamiento has intensified its campaign against illegal dumping and the abandonment of household waste, with a total of 75 proposed fines issued over the last five months.

Since February 1st, the department has carried out 69 interventions linked to illegal rubbish dumping across the municipality.

Of those cases, 42 resulted in proposed fines for breaches of the Municipal Cleanliness By-law. Six of the fines relate to businesses, while the remaining 36 involve private individuals.

The other 27 interventions involved notices issued to residents and businesses requiring them to clean privately owned plots of land. According to the Ayuntamiento, those responsible complied following official warnings.

“We will not tolerate behaviour that damages Arrecife’s image, creates public health problems and forces the use of public resources to clean up waste that has been irresponsibly abandoned,” Arrecife councillor, Jacobo Lemes, stated.
