Here’s what’s happening at Lanzarote’s Art, Culture and Tourism Centres in January.
THEATRE
Martyrs – January 30th
MARTYRS, by Compañía Mar Gómez, is a dance, theatre and circus performance that explores human contradictions with irony and boldness. Through a fragmented narrative and a powerful visual poetics, the piece transforms the figure of the martyr into an uncomfortable, absurd and strikingly contemporary mirror of our society.
The production arrives in Lanzarote on January 30, with a performance at the Auditorio Jameos del Agua, as part of the Escena Lanzarote Festival, one of the island’s leading platforms for contemporary creation.

EXHIBITION
La vida imita al arte (Cristóbal Tabares) – Until March 29th
Inspired by Oscar Wilde, this exhibition reflects on how art shapes our perspective and transforms everyday life. Tabares revisits Canarian painting, reinterpreting artists such as Jorge Oramas, Óscar Domínguez, Néstor de la Torre, and Pino Ojeda, creating a dialogue between past and present, heritage and contemporaneity.
The project brings together eight large-format paintings. In them, the artist reinterprets iconic scenes from island painting from a contemporary perspective, full of irony, color, and sensitivity. Each work updates symbols and landscapes of the archipelago, inviting the viewer to rediscover the everyday and rethink the concept of heritage.
