Yaiza Ayuntamiento has officially terminated the administrative contract for the long-delayed Playa Blanca sports centre project. The decision, announced this Tuesday, comes after the winning bidder, Levantina Ingeniería y Construcción S.L., filed for bankruptcy last summer, leaving its obligations unfulfilled.

The council has formally notified the bankruptcy administrator, Tecea Assurance S.L.P., of the termination. The company’s insolvency forced the council’s hand to find a legal solution to break the stalemate.

Yaiza Mayor, Óscar Noda, stated that the council has “taken all the technical and legal steps in this cumbersome process to settle the contract with the bankruptcy entity and be able to draft the specifications, tender the pending works, and complete the project.”

A major step in this roadmap to recovery was commissioning a detailed cost estimate to assess the current state of the project and define the remaining tasks. The initial report outlined two key areas: first, the inspection and certification of all interior installations (electrical, air conditioning, swimming pool systems, generator, telecommunications, plumbing, and sanitation), and second, the completion of work on the building’s exterior recreation area.

“We found ourselves with a company that left the work half done, which went into bankruptcy, and we, like other Spanish public administrations, had to find a viable solution that complied with the law,” explained Noda, highlighting the challenges faced by the council.

This termination clears the administrative path for the council to retender the project and finally complete the much-anticipated sports facility for the residents of Playa Blanca.
