The Cabildo has announced that all public facilities, such as those used for education, sport, culture (theatres etc) and day centres will be closed today, and all public events in the open air and indoors will be cancelled. The decision has been taken because of the heavy rainfall expected during the day.

The Cabildo has reminded the population that, given the possibility of heavy downpours, they should take care and follow measures against to reduce the risk of flooding, including checking roofs, preparing basic supplies, and paying attention to announcements by local authorities and emergency services.

Arrecife Ayuntamiento has also cancelled all open-air events, such as today’s market in the Plaza de Sa Ginés.

The President of the Security and Emergencies Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, has said that several anti-flood measures have already been taken  and advised citizens to avoid travelling in the event of heavy rains.

The heavy rains expected last night have so far failed to materialise in much of the island, but the forecast remains in place for the duration of Saturday.
