Tías Ayuntamiento’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations last weekend was a huge success and saw more than 15,000 people gather to celebrate together in the Plaza del Varadero.
With an explosion of green colour, energetic music and a festive atmosphere, the St. Patrick’s Day parade and celebrations last weekend attracted an enthusiastic crowd that gathered along the Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen. From the early hours of the morning, residents and visitors alike joined together to pay homage to Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, and enjoy the vibrant celebration.
The parade featured an impressive display of decorated floats, Irish groups, folk groups, classic cars, motorcycles, participants dressed in traditional costumes and extravagant attire.
Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, expressed his gratitude for the loyalty of the Irish people and stated his satisfaction “for the positive economic impact of this celebration in our tourist area, an impact that has a positive impact on business owners, the resident population and workers in the sector”. Cruz also thanked the involvement of the collaborating entities in the event.
Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulated the Irish community, “whom we thank for their character and generosity when enjoying our destination and their consideration and respect for Nature and the Environment, signs that identify the quality tourism we want for our Lanzarote and La Graciosa”.
Betancort places value on “initiatives like this, which represent a twinning between both cultures, which reinforce the true connect between our islands, which is one of our main tourist markets.” “The Cabildo will continue to collaborate with all local entities that promote economic activity whose benefits revert directly to the population,” he added.
