Body removed from Famara cliff

A woman died on Wednesday morning after driving her car off the Famara clifftop.

Firemen attended the area near the Ermita de la Nieves and descended to the area where the car had landed, where they discovered a body that had been thrown 50 metres from the vehicle during the fall. The victim showed “injuries incompatible with life”.

The body was removed by helicopter and taken to the fire station in Arrecife. Further details have been withheld until family members are notified.

The Famara clifftop is a well-known site for suicides. Two years ago, the Cabildo organised the removal of previous vehicles that had been driven from the clifftop over several years.
