The air traffic controllers strike that has caused delays at Lanzarote aiport is at a deadlock, according to both sides in the dispute.
The SAERCO company, which operates the control tower at Lanzarote, said “The 30% pay rise the controllers are demanding is impossible for us to meet, so negotiation has broken down completely.”
The USCA union described the company as being “completely stubborn. It’s not just that they won’t accept improvements, it’s that our members have seen their conditions worsen considerably.”
The strike has been going on since February, but increased traffic in the summer has meant that staffing of the control tower, which requires three on-duty controllers, has been more seriously affected by the strike.
