The Melia Salinas Hotel in Costa Teguise will reopen on May 22nd under the new name of Paradisus Salinas Lanzarote. It will be five-star, adults only hotel offering a “Destination Inclusive” experience that “combines “luxury with local culture and nature”, according to reports in Hosteltur.
The hotel, and another in Gran Canaria, will be the first Canarian ventures by the Paradisus brand, which has up till now been confined to the Caribbean.
The Melia Salinas was one of the first projects that launched the new resort of Costa Teguise in 1977. César Manrique invited his old friend, architect Fernando Higueras, to take charge of the project and was responsible for the design of the swimming pool, the garden areas and several friezes and sculptures inside the building. Two years after opening, it won the International Architecture Prize.
