A 66-year old French man was evacuated from the rim of the Montaña de Caldera Blanca yesterday after twisting his ankle.
Firemen arrived, splinted the man’s leg and placed him on a rigid stretcher. After assessing the situation, a helicopter was called to evacuate the victim to the hospital. This was the third rescue in the Caldera Blanca area this winter, all involving older walkers who have suffered from falls
Later in the day, four walkers were rescued by firemen after getting trapped in an old gravel quarry on the Montaña de Tahiche. On arrival , firemen established that two of the hikers were saafe and rescued the other two using ropes.
