A patera containing 42 migrants arrived at Arrecife harbour this morning after being intercepted at sea. During the rescue, their Zodiac dinghy capsized and several migrants fell into the sea, with one death resulting.
The survivors are 31 men, 10 women and a baby. Ten of the arrivals were taken to the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital, with seven of these in a “critical state”.
Meanwhile, the Cabildo has organised a team to deal with the disposal of the boats used by migrants, several of which are dotted around the shores of the island.
