Cabildo Heritage Councillor Ariagona González took part in a dive as part of a new project to monitor the effects of climate change yesterday.
The project is being carried out by a scientific team from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Canarian Government, and involves locating two oceanographic buoys in the ocean.
The buoys must be located over a rocky seabed, at a depth of between 10 and 15 metres, and will be able to observe the activity of fish, among other capabilities. Currently, the aim is to fond the correct place to locate them, and it was one of these scouting missions that councillor González joined.
González said “this is a study of great relevance, “ and emphasised that “rising sea temperatures are highly significant, because the weather is closely related to ocean conditions.”
