Puerto del Carmen turned a shade of green yesterday as the Irish community on Lanzarote celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day.
After the celebration outside of the church, in honour of Saint Patrick, the Irish national anthem played and the national flag was raised. The Irish consul, Eileen Izquierdo and the Mayor of Tías gave speeches.
The Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, expressed that “the festivity of Saint Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, is tied to the colour green, the clover, the luck and the joy of the Irish in Lanzarote.”
“I would like to thank the Irish community for their loyalty to Puerto del Carmen. We like that in Puerto del Carmen they feel at home, and that they stay with us and choose us as their favourite destination every year”, he added.
After the presentation, up to thirty live performances scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day began in bars across Puerto del Carmen.
All of us at the Gazette hope that you all had a wonderful time celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day.
