Parking spaces at the new La Perla shopping centre in Puerto del Carmen should be ready by spring, according to Lanzasuiza, the owners of the project.

There will be just under 350 parking places available in the new centre, and they will be accessible from the Avenida de las Playas, althopugh preference will be given to access via C/Guatifay, currently a quiet residential cul-de-sac. Heavy vehicles and deliveries will access the centre via C/ Acatife, opposite the centtre.

The shopping area will occupy the lower two floors of the five-storey building , with at least nine frontline shops, and the shopping centre will also be home to the island’s fourth Mercadona supermarket.

Construction of the shoppping centre has been delayed by the Covid pandemic, and also by the paralyzation of Puerto del Carmen’s modernisation plan, the planning project under which the centre was authorised. Tías Ayuntamiento was forced to take special measures and reduce the amount of parking places in order to permit the project to continue.

Meanwhile, in Playa Blanca, the Cabildo has ordered the demolition of a carpark serving the new Parque Atlantico, between C/ Faro Pechiguera and C/ Islas Canarias. According to the Cabildo, the access route to the carpark is a threat to road safety, involving a turn-off between the two main roundabouts in Playa Blanca’s centre.

Yaiza have argued that the area is already being used as a carpark, and that they planned to formalise this use in a future plan, but the Cabildo rejected this argument.
