Playa Bastian in Costa Teguise was closed due to “possible microbiological contamination” yesterday afternoon.

The island’s Emergency Consortium took the precaution after a brown slick was reported in the bathing area of the beach. However, the Water Consortium and Teguise Ayuntamiento have denied that it could be sewage.

The slick did not smell and could possibly be an algal bloom. Nevertheless, the beach will remain closed until the source of the slick is confirmed.
