Yaiza Ayuntamiento has paid out €4.6 million to suppliers, contractors, service providers, and local organisations during the first four months of the year, while simultaneously pushing ahead with public works projects worth more than €9.2 million across the municipality.

Mayor Óscar Noda highlighted that the council continues to meet its payment obligations on time while maintaining what it describes as the lowest unemployment rate among Lanzarote’s five most populated municipalities.

“Yaiza is close to full employment, and that is also positive news,” said Noda.

The mayor stressed that the council remains financially stable despite current economic uncertainty and rising living costs linked to global conflicts and inflation.

“We are fulfilling our commitments responsibly and on time by paying suppliers, especially in the current international climate marked by uncertainty and increasing prices,” he stated.

Noda also underlined that Yaiza has no financial debt, allowing the municipality to fund investments through its own resources and cooperation agreements with other public administrations.

“The municipality can also boast zero financial debt, which means we finance investments with our own funds and through partnerships with other institutions that trust in our management capacity,” he said, adding that recent budget surpluses have also been directed toward social welfare initiatives.

Among the main projects currently underway are the renovation of Avenida Papagayo in Playa Blanca (€2.6 million), the installation of a sewer network in Uga (€1.8 million), and the refurbishment of the surroundings of the Uga wrestling arena (€1.3 million).

Additional works include improvements to the Uga sports field and school area (€952,000), upgrades to playgrounds in Marcastell (€197,000) and Faro Pechiguera (€110,000), as well as the imminent construction of the new Azores road near the Playa Blanca Health Centre (€924,000).

The municipality is also preparing the full modernisation of the main entrance to Playa Blanca via Femés, a project valued at €1.3 million.

“We manage public accounts responsibly, but it is also fair to recognise the efforts of residents, business owners, and self-employed workers who meet their tax and fee obligations,” the mayor added.
