Lanzarote’s climate remains the island’s biggest attraction, but new data shows that visitors are increasingly valuing safety, authenticity and local experiences when choosing the destination.

According to the latest visitor profile report from the Lanzarote Data Centre, the three most important reasons tourists visited the island during the first quarter of 2026 were the climate (74.6%), safety (60.7%) and tranquillity (53.3%).

While these remain the leading motivations, the trends compared with the first quarter of 2025 reveal some notable changes.

Reasons on the rise

Safety recorded the strongest growth among the leading factors, increasing from 55% to 60.7%, a gain of 5.7 percentage points. This suggests visitors are placing greater importance on secure holiday destinations.

Other factors that saw significant increases include:

  • Accommodation options: up from 43.4% to 45.4%
  • Price: up from 39.3% to 41.9%
  • Gastronomy: up from 25.4% to 28.1%
  • Authenticity: up from 24.3% to 27.4%
  • Cultural offerings: up from 10% to 11.5%
  • Historical heritage: up from 9.5% to 11.2%

The figures indicate growing interest in Lanzarote’s culture, food and unique local character, rather than purely its traditional sun-and-sea appeal.

Reasons losing importance

Although still the most frequently cited reason, the climate fell from 80.6% to 74.6%, a decline of six percentage points.

Several of Lanzarote’s classic natural attractions also saw lower scores:

  • The sea: down nearly three points to 38.2%
  • Beaches: down 2.4 points to 30.4%
  • Natural environment: down one point to 35.9%
