Warning: This Puerto del Carmen Show May Cause Laughing Fits

Not everyone expects to leave with aching cheeks from laughing for more than two hours.

Yet that’s exactly what many visitors are searching for after a few days of beaches, cocktails and poolside relaxation. By August, Puerto del Carmen is bursting with holidaymakers looking for something different once the sun goes down.

Step forward the fabulously outrageous Guapatini.

Equal parts diva, comedian, singer and glamour queen, the Contessa Guapatini doesn’t simply perform a show – she throws a sparkling party where the audience is invited along for the ride.

Expect live vocals. Expect dazzling costumes. Expect jokes flying faster than a waiter carrying sangria on a busy Friday night.

What you won’t find is anything mean-spirited. The humour is playful, warm and wonderfully cheeky, creating the kind of atmosphere where complete strangers find themselves laughing together before the first act is over.

The performer behind the character is Paul Burnham, whose career has taken him from London’s West End to television and international stages before bringing Guapatini’s unique brand of cabaret to Lanzarote.

The result is an evening that’s polished without feeling formal, glamorous without taking itself too seriously and funny enough to have guests quoting their favourite moments over breakfast the next morning.

Running every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, Guapatini’s Show Bar has become a popular addition to many visitors’ holiday plans during the busy summer season.
