Two men have been arrested following an attempted ram raid on a jewellery store in Puerto del Carmen during the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to Tías Local Police, the incident happened at around 5:15am at the MELVI-E jewellery shop on the Avenida de Las Playas, when the suspects allegedly drove a rental car into the front of the premises in an attempt to gain entry.

The vehicle used in the raid had been rented in another person’s name, local police told La Voz.

Officers who were already patrolling nearby responded immediately after the shop’s alarm was triggered. One suspect was arrested at the scene, while the second fled on foot.

Police later confirmed that the second suspect was identified and arrested later the same morning.

Both men are residents of Lanzarote and are known to police. Officers said both have previous criminal records, with one having only recently been released from prison.

Investigators also believe the pair may be connected to another recent burglary at a business in Tías, citing similarities in the method used.

The Tías Business and SME Association (AEPTIAS) estimates the damage caused to the jewellery store at around €150,000.

Following the incident, AEPTIAS urged business owners and traders across the municipality to strengthen their security measures and remain vigilant while the investigation continues.
