Firefighters yesterday rescued an injured turtle that had been found near Los Ancones, near Costa Teguise.
The loggerhead turtle was taken to the fire station, where it will be passed on to staff from the Environment Department of the Cabildo, for transfer to a wildlife recovery centre.
It’s the third injured turtle to be recovered this year, after two incidents involving loggerheads that were tangled in fishing lines and plastic waste.
The Environment Department recommends that anyone who finds an injured turtle call 112 or the Injured Wildlife Collection Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote (696 733 177).
Keep the turtle in the shade, covered with a wet towel, and do not attempt to untangle it yourself.
