Teguise local police officers and council workers entered an abandoned hotel in Costa Teguise yesterday, to remove several shanty-type dwellings and halt illegal constructions.

Several wooden pallets and tents were removed from the building, which lies between the Avenida del Mar and the Avenida de las Palmeras, opposite the Playa Roca complex.

The eyesore has blighted the resort for over 20 years but is currently in the process of legalization to build a 500-bed hotel.  During the housing crisis, several individuals and families have occupied the abandoned hotel.

Teguise mayor, Olivia Duque, said that the council has also told the owners of the plot to employ security guards on the site and repair the fences.
