A patera containing 22 people was rescued yesterday after going adrift 20 kilometres from Lanzarote.
Pasengers aboard contacted Canarian Maritime Rescue to report that the motor of their dinghy had failed. The dinghy, which had departed from Tan-Tan in Morocco two days earlier, was located by an air-sea rescue helicopter and the Maritime Rescue ship Al Nair took the boat to Arrecife, where 22 occupants, including two women, were established to be in good health.
Another boat that departed at the same time has been reportedly picked up by the Moroccan Navy.
This is only the second patera to arrive on Lanzarote this year, with a drastic reduction in crossings compared to previous years.
