Arrecife estimates that around 500 people in the city will be applying for the migrant amnesty that applies until the end of June. Successful applicants will be given the right to reside and work in Spain for a year, with the option of re-applying for residence thereafter.

Applicants must be able to show that they lived in Spain prior to January 2026, and that they have no criminal records or proceedings against them. Post offices and Social Security offices are receiving applications, and significant queues have formed at the Migrant Federation offices in Arrecife to get more information.

Between 30,000 to 50,000 applicants are expected to apply in the Canaries, the majority of whom are expected to be Latin-Americans.
