A British tourist who suffered life-threatening injuries after falling down a hotel staircase in Lanzarote has died almost ten months after the accident, becoming the second fatality linked to the incident.
Nicholas Thomas, 54, passed away on July 10, 2026, following months of treatment for injuries he sustained in the fall at a holiday resort in Costa Teguise. His death was reported by the British newspaper The Sun.
The accident happened in the early hours of October 25, 2025, at an apartment complex in the resort. Thomas and his friend, 56-year-old Darren Silcox, were reportedly leaning against a railing beside a stairwell when it suddenly gave way, causing both men to fall approximately six metres.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1:30 a.m. Darren Silcox died at the scene, while Nicholas Thomas suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.
According to The Sun, Thomas remained in hospital for nearly ten months before dying from complications related to his injuries.
The Guardia Civil’s investigation has focused on determining why the railing failed and whether the condition or maintenance of the resort’s facilities may have contributed to the tragedy. Any findings regarding potential liability have not been made public.
