The Punto Violeta (Purple Point) will once again be available during the Puerto del Carmen fiestas, offering a safe space for information, prevention and support for anyone affected by sexist behaviour or gender-based violence.

The service will operate in Plaza del Varadero from 11:00pm until 4:00am during the fiestas, which take place over the next two weekends (July 31st, August 1st & August 8th).

Organised by Tías Ayuntamiento and managed by the Mararía Association, the Punto Violeta will be staffed by a psychologist, a legal adviser and a counsellor. Its aim is not only to assist anyone who experiences harassment or violence, but also to raise awareness and encourage respectful behaviour at one of the municipality’s busiest annual events.

According to organisers, around 90% of those who used the service in previous years were young people aged between 15 and 17. In addition to supporting victims of harassment, staff also provide information on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), answer questions on sexual health and distribute free condoms. Most users have been young people from municipalities across Lanzarote.
