Puerto del Carmen Disables Beach Showers Amid Lanzarote Water Shortages

Tías Ayuntamiento has turned off the showers on all beaches in Puerto del Carmen due to the water crisis on Lanzarote.

Around 30 showers will be turned off between Matagorda and Playa Chica, although footwash facilities will remain connected. The measure is said to be temporary.

Tías Mayor Jose Juan Cruz said “”We are the leading tourist destination in Lanzarote and we work to provide services to the tourism sector that sustains our economy, but we must be mindful of the situation the island and many towns in the municipality are experiencing, where water cuts are constant and never-ending.”
