Wellington Castro, an athlete living in Playa Blanca, has returned to Lanzarote as Spanish champion of the Kenpo World Championship that took place in Portugal last month.
The Kenpo World Championship event was held between April 27th – 29th in the Portuguese town of Caldas Da Rainha, where local athlete Wellington Castro won three titles and a bronze, helping the Spanish national team win the title for the fourth consecutive year.
Castro was crowned world champion after winning the final against Romania, which “is the hardest combat at the whole competition and the Eastern countries are very strong and at a high level.”.
Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, highlighted “Wellington’s world-class performance and his commitment to the youth of our municipality of Yaiza”.
Wellington teaches the art of Kenpo at the Kenpo Karate Lanzarote Academy.
