The Cabildo has completed the replacement of more than fifty streetlights along the road linking Mácher and Yaiza, upgrading the lamps to modern LED technology.
The work was carried out by the island’s road maintenance team as part of an ongoing programme aimed at improving Lanzarote’s road infrastructure. The initiative focuses on reducing energy consumption, lowering emissions, and improving visibility and road safety for motorists.
Jacobo Medina, Councillor for Public Works at the Cabildo, said the project forms part of a wider effort to modernise the island’s roads through sustainable and energy-efficient measures.
He explained that similar upgrades will continue across Lanzarote’s road network as the Cabildo moves toward a more environmentally friendly and efficient lighting system.
According to the Cabildo, switching to LED lighting provides substantial energy savings, extends the lifespan of the equipment, and improves the quality of illumination, particularly during night-time driving conditions.
The institution says the project reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and to improving public infrastructure for residents across the island.
