Agents from the National Police in Arrecife have arrested a known repeat offender for an alleged burglary of home. The arrest came just four days after the individual was released from prison, where he had been serving a sentence for similar crimes.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 3rd January at a home in the island’s capital. The suspect gained entry to the property by forcing open a window.
While the resident and her son were asleep inside, the intruder stole multiple valuable items, including mobile phones and video game consoles. He then exited quietly through the front door, which was unlocked, without alerting the occupants.
Through their investigative work, officers identified the perpetrator as an individual with multiple prior convictions for property crimes, primarily burglaries.
The suspect was arrested two days after the robbery. At the time of his arrest, officers recovered various items linked to other crimes committed in the town. These included perfumes, a watch, documents belonging to other people, and items stolen from shops and vehicles parked on public roads.
All recovered property has been returned to its rightful owners. The suspect was brought before the judicial authorities as the alleged perpetrator of burglary and theft. The court ordered his immediate remand in custody at the Tahiche Penitentiary Centre.
The National Police emphasised the speed of the police action and reiterated its commitment to protecting public safety and prosecuting repeat offenders.
A police spokesperson stated, “We are especially focused on crimes that jeopardise the safety and peace of mind of citizens in their own homes.”
