When the sun disappears over Puerto del Carmen, The Beach Pub keeps the evening going with cocktails, cold drinks, sea views and a soundtrack spanning more than five decades.
The transition from day to night in Puerto del Carmen can be remarkably gradual. The afternoon sun softens, the colours of the Atlantic change and, eventually, the first stars begin to appear above the coastline.
At The Beach Pub, that transition can be enjoyed from an open-fronted setting on the main beach road.
The pub’s open design suits Lanzarote’s climate, bringing natural light and fresh air into the space and keeping the sea and promenade firmly within view. During the day, shade and cool breezes provide a comfortable place to escape the strongest sunshine, while the evening brings a different atmosphere altogether.
It might start with a cold pint of Tropical, Madri or Coors, or a Magners Irish Cider on draught. For wine drinkers, chilled Torres wines are served with their own ice bucket.
As sunset approaches, cocktails become particularly tempting. The Beach Pub serves Mojitos, frozen Daiquiris and a variety of other cocktails, giving guests something colourful to enjoy while the sky changes above the sea.
There is also a selection of branded spirits, available on their own or with Coca-Cola mixers, while Prosecco and Champagne can be served chilled on ice for those looking to make an evening feel a little more special.
Then there is the music.
The Beach Pub‘s videos cover the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s as well as more recent hits, creating a soundtrack that moves comfortably between generations. Importantly, the volume is kept loud enough to hear but low enough to speak, making it possible to enjoy the music without sacrificing conversation.
For anyone wanting something without alcohol, the bar also serves soft drinks and a range of coffees, including Latte, Americano, Espresso and Cappuccino, alongside British PG Tips Tea. Snacks are available when a few drinks have worked up an appetite.
The pub is also pet friendly, so visitors do not necessarily have to leave their four-legged companions behind. There is even a bowl of water waiting for them.
As the moon takes over from the sun and the stars appear, the atmosphere changes again. The sea views remain, the breeze becomes cooler and the music continues in the background. It is a simple combination — good company, familiar music, something cold in the glass and the Atlantic beyond — but it is precisely the kind of evening that Lanzarote does particularly well.
