The island’s food and wine scene is set to take centre stage at one of Europe’s most prestigious gastronomic fairs. Starting today, Monday 13th April, the “Saborea Lanzarote” brand will be present at the 39th Salón Gourmets in Madrid, showcasing the quality, innovation and distinctive flavours of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The delegation will be based in Hall 3, booth 3A40, where producers, wineries, restaurateurs and associations from the primary sector will come together to highlight the archipelago’s culinary offering. The event represents a joint effort by local institutions, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and various sectoral bodies to promote the region’s gastronomy on a national stage.
Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, said: “Attending the Salón Gourmets once again this year reinforces our strategy to position ourselves as a leading gastronomic destination. We offer not only unique flavours but also a history linked to our volcanic landscape that sets us apart in the world; and that is part of our added value.”
Nori Machín, Regional Minister for Economic Promotion, added: “Saborea Lanzarote continues to be a key tool for promoting our cuisine and our products in national and international markets, embracing modernity without renouncing our roots. This event allows us to continue generating opportunities for our producers and businesses.”
A packed opening day
The programme for Monday, 13th April, begins with a strong focus on the island’s culinary identity. At 12.30pm, Oswaldo Betancort and Nori Machín will present a session titled “Lanzarote and Its Cuisine: A Strategy for the Local Economy and Landscape”.
One of the day’s highlights will be the screening of the audiovisual presentation “Recipes from Lanzarote’s Traditional Cuisine”, created by renowned artist Fefo Nieves. The screening will feature the participation of Armando Santana, the Cabildo’s Councilor for Restaurants, alongside the island’s president and other culinary professionals.
The opening day will also turn attention to the future of the sector. A group of students from Lanzarote will travel to Madrid to experience first‑hand the quality, versatility and potential of local products. As Oswaldo Betancort said: “It is essential to involve the younger generations in promoting our local products.” Nori Machín echoed this sentiment, adding: “Lanzarote’s gastronomy has enormous potential for growth, and young people will be key players in its evolution.”
The richness of Lanzarote’s pantry
Over the four days of the fair, the Saborea Lanzarote booth will host a full programme of activities, including tastings, presentations and sensory experiences. Iconic products will take centre stage: wines from the Lanzarote Designation of Origin, artisanal cheeses, volcanic sweet potatoes, craft beers, mojos, jams and sea salts. The delegation is attending alongside producers and associations such as the Regulatory Council and AQUAL, among others. The aim is to strengthen the connection between producers, chefs and distributors, consolidating a Lanzarote gastronomic model built on quality and respect for the land.
