Lanzarote took part in Seatrade Cruise Med 2026 this week, one of the cruise industry’s leading international events, using the occasion to promote the island and outline its approach to managing future cruise tourism.
The two-day event, held in Las Palmas, brought together cruise lines, ports and destinations from across the Mediterranean and adjoining seas, making the Canary Islands a meeting point for key figures from the global cruise sector.
Alongside promoting Lanzarote and La Graciosa as cruise destinations, the island’s representatives said their priority is to ensure cruise ship arrivals at the Muelle de los Mármoles remain “orderly, controlled, and staggered”, helping to avoid overcrowding while maintaining a high standard of service for both visitors and residents.
This year, Lanzarote also sponsored a stand at the exhibition. The space hosted roundtable discussions, presentations, press conferences and professional meetings as part of the island’s ongoing strategy for cruise tourism.
Representatives said the focus is “not just about growth, but about doing so in an orderly and sustainable manner.”
According to the organisers, Seatrade Cruise Med is the only event dedicated to the Mediterranean and adjoining seas, bringing regional decision-makers and buyers together in one place.
Organisers describe the event as the world’s second-largest cruise destination gathering. They say its smaller scale, compared with Seatrade Cruise Global, is intended to provide greater regional insight, more opportunities for face-to-face meetings and clearer outcomes for participants.
The event also provides opportunities for cruise line leaders to meet with destinations, ports, tour and shore excursion operators, shipyards and terminal suppliers from around the world.
