Lanzarote Firefighters Finish Fourth in National Rescue Competition

Lanzarote’s firefighters have secured fourth place overall at Spain’s National Traffic Accident Rescue Competition (ENRATT), while also claiming third place in the command category.

The team, representing the Lanzarote Fire Consortium, competed against some of the country’s top rescue units in a series of demanding simulated road traffic accident scenarios designed to test technical skills, teamwork and decision-making under pressure.

Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort praised the achievement, saying the results demonstrate the professionalism, discipline and technical excellence of Lanzarote’s firefighters, adding that finishing just outside the national podium highlights the island’s high standard of emergency response.

Francisco J. Aparicio, president of the Fire Consortium, said the competition involved complex rescue exercises carried out against the clock. He congratulated the team for the many hours of training behind their success, noting that third place in the command category reflects their strong leadership, strategic planning and ability to make rapid decisions in high-pressure situations.

During the competition, the Lanzarote team successfully completed two challenging rescue manoeuvres, with judges assessing key areas including scene safety, risk management, vehicle extrication techniques and the quality of medical care provided to trapped casualties.

The strong performance places Lanzarote’s firefighters among Spain’s leading road traffic rescue teams and recognises the expertise they bring to emergency incidents across Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
