Lanzarote Airport to receive €327.4 million investment between 2027 and 2031

Lanzarote Airport is set to receive approximately €327.4 million in investment over the next five years, with planned improvements covering the terminal, passenger facilities, airfield and operational safety.

Lanzarote Airport will receive approximately €327.4 million between 2027 and 2031 under a major investment programme for airports across the Canary Islands approved by the Spanish government this week.

The funding forms part of the Airport Regulation Document (DORA) for the 2027–2031 period, which provides investment across the network of Spanish airports managed by Aena.

The planned improvements at Lanzarote Airport include:

• Check-in and passenger processing: Expansion of the check-in counters and check-in area, along with larger security and passport control areas.
• Boarding areas: Expansion of boarding waiting areas and an increase in the number of gates.
• Baggage facilities: Expansion of the baggage claim area and the number of baggage carousels.
• Airfield and apron: Works to the airfield and apron.
• Security and operational safety: Improvements to security and operational safety.

Investment across the Canary Islands

The overall programme provides for €1,807 billion of investment across the Canary Islands’ airports between 2027 and 2031.

Gran Canaria Airport will receive €336.3 million, with projects including terminal upgrades, airfield and apron works and improvements to passenger facilities.

Tenerife North Airport is allocated €313 million for expansions to passenger processing and boarding areas, parking improvements and airport access works.

Tenerife South Airport will receive €553 million for a comprehensive terminal renovation, airfield and apron works, security and facilities improvements and sustainability measures.

La Palma Airport is allocated €89 million for terminal, airfield, safety, operational and sustainability projects.

La Gomera Airport will receive €19 million for terminal, apron, safety and operational improvements, as well as a planned solar photovoltaic park.

El Hierro Airport has €14.8 million earmarked for airfield, safety, operational and sustainability improvements.

Fuerteventura Airport will receive €153 million for terminal and apron expansion, a new control tower, baggage handling infrastructure, passenger boarding bridges and a new ILS/DME (Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment) to assist with landings.
