A gang of seven men who robbed a house in San Bartolomé with extreme violence, leading to the death of a householder, will face trial in Arrecife today.
The gang planned the attack on José Antonio Perera in January 2016, gaining access to his home in La Florida by posing as police officers. Once inside, Perera was tied, beaten and electrocuted, and the gang fled with watches, jewellery in the victim’s car.
Perera died two months later of a pulmonary embolism that forensic investigators have linked directly to the attack. He left a young daughter.
The gang members are mainly from Tenerife, although one was based on Lanzarote. Prosecutors are seeking sentences of between 20 and 27 years for the accused men.
