A FIFA rule change will allow young migrants to play for amateur football teams.

FIFA originally introduced transfer rules that were intended to prevent the trafficking of children, and these rules were later relaxed to permit refugees and asylum seekers to sign up with amateur clubs.

However, most of the youngsters who arrive by patera are classed as “vulnerable unaccompanied minors” under legal guardianship of their Spanish region. The rules will now permit these children to be registered by amateur clubs.
