The National Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who filed a false report of mobile phone theft, when in fact he had offered the phone as payment in a brothel in Arrecife.
Last year, the police received a report of theft from a 35-year-old man. The man stated that his phone had been stolen by two men after they assaulted him in the early hours of the morning while walking through Arrecife.
The 35-year-old alleged that the two men hid in a house while he made the phone call to report the crime.
Through an investigation the police came to the conclusion that no robbery took place, as the 35-year-old had allegedly offered his phone as payment for services in a brothel.
He has since been arrested by police and is awaiting the following legal proceedings.
