A recent study has found that electricity production and aviation account for 75% of Lanzarote’s oil consumption.
The Las Caletas power plant is responsible for the largest percentage of oil consumption with 39%, which provides electricity for 80,000 clients. Although there are renewable energy options such as wind or solar, they generate just 9% of electricity consumption.
Aviation falls just behind this figure with 36% consumption of crude oil derivatives, while personal transport accounts for 21%.
