An appeal by the defence lawyers for Raúl Diaz has been rejected by the Canarian Supreme Court.

Díaz is accused of the domestic abuse, assault and murder of his wife, Romina Celeste in January 2019, as well as the desecration of her body and the simulation of a crime.

His defence lawyers made a final appeal for the case to be rejected and evidence to be decalred inadmissible, but the court rejected the appeal, meaning that Diaz will face trial by jury.

Díaz was released provisionally from Tahiche prison in January, after the four-year period during which a prisoner can be held without trial expired. Since then he has returned to Madrid, where he must attend a local police station every Monday.
