Yaiza Ayuntamiento has announced that a section of Avenida Papagayo in Playa Blanca will be closed to traffic from Wednesday 12th August to Friday 14th August while paving and road marking works are carried out as part of the first phase of the Avenida Papagayo’s comprehensive redevelopment.
The closure will affect the stretch between Iglesia del Carmen and the junction with Calle Maciot, with motorists advised to use alternative routes and take extra care when travelling near the construction zone.
The works form part of a €2.6 million municipal investment being carried out by the administration led by Mayor Óscar Noda to modernise one of Playa Blanca’s main roads.
Once completed, this first phase will introduce 65 new parallel parking spaces along Avenida Papagayo. The section between the church and Calle Maciot will also become a one-way road heading towards Las Coloradas, improving traffic flow and parking availability.
A further 35-space public car park behind the church is also included in the project, although that part of the development has not yet been completed.
Councillor for Public Works Ángel Lago thanked residents and visitors for their patience during the disruption.
“We thank everyone in advance for their understanding and cooperation regarding any inconvenience these works may cause.”
Meanwhile, work is continuing on the next stage of the project, with contractors upgrading pavements and improving accessibility around the Princesa Yaiza Hotel. This section of the avenue will also be resurfaced as part of the wider urban renewal scheme.
When finished, the redevelopment will extend along the entire length of Avenida Papagayo, reaching the Ciudad Jardín roundabout near Las Coloradas, delivering improved road infrastructure, pedestrian access and additional parking for residents and visitors alike.
