44% of Lanzarote residents were not born on the island, according to recent figures from the Canarian Institute of Statistics.

26% of the population of the municipality of Yaiza was born on-island, while the percentage in Tías and Arrecife is also below 50%. The highest ratio of locals on the island is found in the rural municipality of Tinajo, where seven out of ten residents were born on Lanzarote.

Around 1,000 to 1,200 babies are born on Lanzarote every year, almost all delivered in the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital. This means that there are roughly three new conejeros every day.
