Maritime Rescue responded to a distress call on Sunday evening after a small migrant boat encountered difficulties off the northern coast of Lanzarote.

According to reports, the alert was received via the Mirador del Río repeater station in Haría. The Salvamar Al Nair, together with Guardia Civil officers, began searching for the vessel from around 6:45pm.

The boat was eventually located by the Salvamar Al Nair and escorted safely to the Port of Arrecife, arriving at approximately 11:30pm.

A total of 53 people were on board, including five minors and three women. Emergency services reported that most of the occupants were in good health on arrival.

Only two people required transfer to Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital for treatment of minor medical conditions.
