The Guardia Civil is investigating the identity of a man captured in a viral video repeatedly stabbing the front door of a house in the northern Lanzarote village of Punta Mujeres.
The footage, which spread rapidly across social media over the weekend, shows a hooded individual walking along a residential street carrying a large knife. He then stops outside a coastal property and appears to stab the front door multiple before walking away.
The video was filmed from inside a vehicle. Recording begins moments before the man reaches the house, and after the incident he approaches the vehicle and opens one of its doors, at which point the footage ends.
The location has been identified as Calle Las Salinas in Punta Mujeres, within the municipality of Haría.
Despite the video only gaining widespread attention over the weekend, municipal sources told La Voz de Lanzarote that the incident itself did not occur recently but is believed to have taken place at least a week earlier.
According to the same sources, the matter was reported to the Guardia Civil in Haría, which is responsible for investigating the case. The force has confirmed that officers are working to identify the individual shown in the footage and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Haría Local Police reportedly had not been informed of the events as of Saturday.
The motive behind the apparent act of vandalism remains unknown, and no further details have been released as the investigation continues.
