Blow for Modelo 720

The collapse of Modelo 720 declaration requirements in Spain was hastened last month when Spain’s Supreme Court declared that fines issued for failing to report foreign-held assets were null and void. The ruling was retrospective, meaning any fines already issued may be reclaimed.

Twenty containers burned

Fire fighters were called to twenty container fires in Arrecife late last night.

Tremors offshore

An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 was detected off the north coast of Lanzarote on Thursday. The tremor was located at a depth of 8 kilometres and does not appear to have been accompanied by any other activity.

Water and power contract

Canal Gestión is finalising an agreement to guarantee electricity supply to its desalination plants. The contract could last for up to five years, with a budget of €79.5 million for that period.

Lanzarote’s cruise season has started with the arrival of the immense, 4,000 bed Anthem of the Seas on Friday.
