Meet the Diva Lighting Up Puerto del Carmen Nights

When the beach towels are folded away and the evening begins, one larger-than-life performer is proving that a little glamour goes a very long way.

By day, Puerto del Carmen is all about flip-flops, sunglasses and sea views.

By night, one venue swaps sand for sparkle.

Hidden among the resort’s evening attractions is Guapatini’s Show Bar, where towering heels, fabulous gowns and plenty of laughter have become part of the nightly entertainment.

Leading the charge is the wonderfully mysterious Contessa Guapatini – a diva who insists she was once married to a Count, kept the title and carried on collecting sequins ever since.

Whether every detail is true hardly matters. Half the fun is wondering where the stories end and the comedy begins.

The Contessa’s creator, Paul Burnham, brings decades of professional experience to the stage, combining West End credentials with live vocals, quick-fire comedy and enough charisma to keep audiences entertained from curtain up to the final bow.

The result is a show that’s full of warmth as well as wit. It’s playful rather than provocative, glamorous without feeling exclusive and brilliantly daft in all the right places.

Guests enjoy table service throughout the evening while the show unfolds around them, making it easy to relax, raise a glass and let someone else provide the entertainment.

August is one of Puerto del Carmen’s busiest months, and evenings out are often planned well before visitors even unpack their suitcases. Guapatini performs every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with popular dates booking up quickly, so advance booking is recommended.

After all, anyone can spend another evening at the bar.
