A market combining Lanzarote fashion, wine and local products will take place at Finca Testeina on Saturday, May 9th, as part of the island’s celebrations for Designation of Origin Wine Day.
The “Fashion and Wine” Market is being organised jointly by the Regulatory Council of the Lanzarote Wines Designation of Origin and Lanzarote Moda, with support from the Lanzarote Cabildo. The event will bring together the island’s wine industry, creative sector and cultural activities across a full day programme.
Lanzarote is joining similar initiatives organised by wine designations of origin across Spain, including a simultaneous nationwide toast. The local programme is intended to promote island products and support economic activity linked to key sectors.
The president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, said: “celebrating Designation of Origin Wine Day places the wine sector at the centre of the island’s economic and cultural activity, recognising its role in preserving the landscape and creating jobs.”
He added: “events like this consolidate a model based on local products and the connection between sectors that add value to the region.”
Regional Minister of Industry, Aroa Revelo, said the event highlights several industries closely associated with Lanzarote.
“This event brings together fashion, crafts, and wine – three areas that are integral to Lanzarote’s identity and have the potential to generate sustained economic activity,” she said.
The event will include a wine space hosted by Bodegas Vega de Yuco alongside a culinary offering, market stalls from brands linked to Lanzarote Moda, live music and family activities.
Schedule
The Lanzarote Moda Market will open at 11am at Finca Testeina, when designer stalls and the first activities will begin.
Participatory workshops and fashion-related activities, including children’s events, are scheduled to start at 12pm. An official ceremony and toast using local products is planned for around 12.30pm.
Afternoon activities and workshops will resume from 4pm, while live music performances and DJ sets are due to run from 5.30pm until 8pm.
Organisers said the event has been developed in collaboration with organisations connected to local products, including the Vega de Yuco winery, with the aim of strengthening ties between design, the local area and the island’s primary sector.
