The Canary Islands earned 427 million from film and TV productions last year, more than twice the amount of the previous year.

The announcement confirms that film and TV production is an increasingly important element of the Canarian economy.

Major productions last year included The Beast, a Renny Harlin action film starring Samuel L. Jackson as the President of the USA (if only) and John Travolta. Jude Law also arrived on Gran Canaria to film scenes from Nocturne, while Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz shot parts of Day Drinker on Tenerife.

On Lanzarote, the main production was Pedro Almodovar’s Bitter Christmas, which will premier in March.
